Research Interests

The group has recently completed a number of experiments in various areas of elementary particle physics. Rare kaon decays, [a search for the long-lived neutral Kaon decaying to a muon and an electron and the long-lived neutral Kaon decaying to an electron-positron pair, and a high statistics measurement of the branching ratio of the long-lived neutral Kaon decaying to a muon pair] was done at the AGS at Brookhaven, (E791): A measurement of the spin structure function of the neutron was done at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, (E-142); Rare decays of the muon was done at the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility (LAMPF) (Crystal Box Experiment); A Search for neutrino oscillations (E-764) was competed at LAMPF.

Currently, Drs. Auerbach and Martoff are working on a high sensitivity search for neutrino oscillations at LAMPF (E-1173), and Drs. Meziani, Auerbach and Martoff are involved in the planning of an approved experiment at CEBAF to improve our knowledge of the structure of the nucleon. Dr. Meziani is working on an experiment to make precision measurements of the spin structure functions (quark content and configuration) of the proton and deuteron at SLAC (E-143). There will also be a test of the Bjorken sum rule at high momentum transfer. Additionally, Drs. Meziani, Auerbach and Martoff will be working, in the Fall of 1995, on Expt E-154 at SLA A Precision Measurement of the Neutron spin Structure Function. Future work on the flavor content of the nucleon will be carried out at CEBAF.
